Certification/License: Library Media Specialist
Job Description: The Mount Vernon City School District is looking to a hire a Library Media Specialist for grades K-8. The candidate must possess the required certification/license and demonstrate an understanding of informational literacy. Job description details and expectations include:
- Plan, prepare and facilitate learning experiences that actively engage and challenge students.
- Experience with instruction on informational and technology literacy skills, including the research process.
- Educate students on the research process and help them develop research skills.
- Encourage students to access the school library collection and available resources in different formats and for different educational purposes.
- Identify and utilize different instructional resources and methods to support the learning needs of students at varying levels of progress.
- Familiarity with national and state standards for informational literacy and technology.
- Stay current with the most recent developments in appropriate subject areas as initiated by the school or district.
- Provide for the care and protection of school property and instructional resources.
- Collaborate with other educators to design and implement informational literacy strategies to engage students and enhance instruction.
- Provide leadership and expertise in acquiring and evaluating resources in all formats.
- Handle revenues and expenditures for the library budget.
- Participate in department, school, and district meetings and professional development activities as appropriate.
